I have moved!

I have moved to a new blog that you can find here. So much about my life has changed since I began this blog I felt it was time for a new start with better blogging habits and a new outlook as my new life being a crafter and stay at home Mum. I would love for you to join me there.
I hope to be able to develop my writing style and give more of a glimpse into every day life in my home of magic beans! I have started off with #100daysofhappy to help establish blogging as a part of my day. I still have a lot of work to do on the look and layout of my new place (life with a 5 month old is busy! Particularly when he chooses not to nap!)

Thank you for following my crafty exploits this far and I hope to see you again soon! Xxxx

Handmade baby part 2

As part of my mission to have as much handmade for LB as possible I made these curtains and bunting for his room. We decorated the room in a neutral green with these cream and green curtains and a very cute wall sticker.

They are my first attempt at making curtains and although far from perfect I am really proud of the result.

I took this photo lying on the floor with LB in his jungle gym so the quality is not great. He loves these wall stickers and has started spending quite a lot of time looking at them.

This is my favourite room now. Although LB is not sleeping in here yet we feed, change and bathe him in here. We also spend some time playing in here after a fresh nappy and bedtime stories are in here too. This is the room we were in when he beamed at me for the first time when he was still really tiny. It is where he gave most of his smiles when we were changing his nappy in the early smiling days and where he started to babble in those gorgeous baby cooing noises. It was a room of great interest from the start and has so many things that capture his interest. I love seeing everything through his eyes, it paints it with fresh light.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing a slice of my heaven.

Handmade Baby

Happy new year! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, how I have missed you all!

So, things got somewhat crazy around here on the lead up to and following the birth of my little baby boy. As always I have been a bad blogger but things always seem to get in the way, drawing my focus away. But I have missed it and missed being a little more involved in the blogging world. As always I have been faithfully reading my long list of blogs, enjoying the inspiration you all bring and feeling just a little frustrated at my vacation from the crafty world.

Having said this motherhood is amazing. Watching little bean grow and learn is a great privalige that I would not change for anything. LB is now 3 months old. He is big, 15lb already. He loves his food, he is not too bad with sleep (fingers crossed this keeps up) although he feeds several times in the night I don't find it too bad getting up and he is very good getting back to sleep afterwards. He is so strong, his little legs hold his full weight and he loves to stand (obviously not yet able to balance himself but he does a sweet little bop that I just love), he is so smiley, a really happy little thing that enjoys music, loves his Daddy, whistling, being nude and is just starting to appreciate toys. Without his nappy he pushes his bottom into the air with his legs and can push himself halfway across the room. I could go on all day but I won't.

Before he was born we did not know if we would have a boy or a girl but that did not stop all the making! One of the first things I decided to make was a mobile. We have a musical mobile on his crib as well which he loves but this was the first thing he was interested in when we bought him home from the hospital.

It may be a little on the girly side with pink flowers but he loves it and so do I.

It hangs under the stairs in our living room and he used to nap in his Moses basket underneath it. Now he has a kick and play piano just below and it still catches his eye. I think it is those cute little bees.

I didn't use a pattern for this, I just started crocheting. I love the way it came out. Maybe one day I will look back and work out a pattern for you guys but right now I just want to keep enjoying it with LB.

Thanks for stopping by! Xxxx

An Owl Blanket

My Sister-in-Law loves owls and has done for years and years. She has collected owls since she was very small. Now there are owls everywhere, they are very much 'on trend'. R always has been a trend setter so this is of no surprise to me!

For her 21st birthday I made her a blanket. She is moving to Sweden in a few weeks so will be in need of some extra warmth.
She chose all the colours and loved the result.

I also made her this pair of  owl hand warmers. They are made up with cotton yarn and filled with ceramic beads, just a quick blast in the microwave or a sit on a radiator and these will make some really toasty pockets.

Thinking of winter already - summer seems to have only just begun! Anyway, I will be back with a home made baby series, I have made lots of things for the little one to come, as have some other members of my family.

I hope all of your days are filled with your own little rays of sunshine. xxx

Guess who's back?!

Hi there! I am still here! Things have been really hectic working on my new project 'Homemade Baby'. We have also been  busy with catching up with family and friends before the new one arrives and it all gets more complicated. Still summer is here and I am making progress so back to blog land I come. I must say I have still been keeping up with all your gorgeous makes and wonderful trips to the coast and lovely sunny gardens and it has made me super happy to see you all enjoying your summer.

I have been doing lots and lots of making. Learning new skills and working on lost ones. So I will have lots of posts coming up, mostly tah dah posts because I have been really bad at keeping up with my photo taking. (just give me a few weeks and I am sure I will not be able to put the camera down!!)

Anyway, to start us off I have been trialing something quite different. Paper cutting is something I first saw at an oriental festival in LA and it has interested me since. I have seen a lot of paper cutting appearing here there and everywhere since returning to the UK, MacDonalds seems to be using a paper cutting idea in its latest advertisement campaign. Many of these designs are lovely and produced using a laser cutting machine.

I have been trying with hand cut paper designs, largely for wedding gifts so far. When we were married it was the personal, off list gifts that meant the most to us and I like giving people a memento of their special day and lives together so far.

The better I know the couple, the more personalised and meaningful the image comes out. I have hand drawn and cut each of these designs from black paper. It is enjoyable and I love the outcome. There are loads of tutorials and examples out there on the big wide web and the materials required are minimal. All you need is an idea and a craft knife and cutting matt. Why not have a go? It is beautifully creative and simple to get lovely looking images really quickly.

I am sure you will be seeing more of these in the not too distant future. Until next time. xxx

A little jumper

Hey there!

Long time no see. I have been keeping up with reading blogs but not so much with the posting. What a bad blogger I am!

So I have been crocheting but progress feels so slow, I still get a little tired and we are trying to sort out bits and pieces to make sure things will be ready for our new arrival (it seems such a long way off to say October but life is so busy!)

We are taking part in many things in the coming months, another of my hobbies is music and YB and I are playing with his family band in a Christian Aid concert soon so there are rehearsals every weekend for that which means travel and practice in the evenings too. I am also so easily distracted snooping for inspiration.

Anyway, today in the car I finished off a cute little jumper for a friends Nephew. It is super cute.

I also have a freshly finished blanket to show you...more on that soon. I hope you are having a fab weekend!

And then there were three...

So more on what has been keeping me so occupied for the last couple of months....

The two of us will be joined by a third member in October. Yay! Let the baby crocheting commence!
